Here is what I learned today:

Pompeii

A few interesting ideas I learned about Pompeii from class today were:

(1) Mount Vesuvius actually ruined two cities: Pompeii and Herculaneum

(2) The volcanic eruption lasted 19 hours.

(3) Pompeii was buried under ash for nearly 1,700 years.

(4) In 1748, archaeologists began to uncover Pompeii.

Navigational Strategy:
The navigation strategy I found most effective was the easy to follow "continue", "begin", and "next" buttons on the timeline website. I felt it was very user friendly and easy to follow so students would have an easy time navigating the site.
Reliable Source:
One way to identify whether a site is reliable or not is by viewing an "About Us" section. Many times the sources are recognizable as reliable, such as PBS. Other sites are not as easy to recognize for validity, such as the site made by students on Pompeii.

Informational Feature:
I found the website developed by students to be effective and kid-friendly because it was researched by students of a similar age and it uses appropriate language. Many of the sites used large terms and descriptive language that students would not be able to understand or make sense of for their own understanding.
